Tomás Sidenfaden Thanks for writing a comparison of the East vs West #socialcredit system. I did wrote a post about China’s Social Credit system (see my profile). Their tech giants are helping China to create this system and to get it ready by 2020.
Why? With a population of 1.5 billion people, controlling the people by way of this ONE ingenious system was a brilliant idea! Since people are glued to their mobile phones these days, almost nobody uses cash anymore (that’s another story), everything is #digital and #technology become our gods.
It was introduced very innocently but has grown into a scary machine. Like the ancestral ghosts that Asians pay their respects to during the “Hungry Ghosts Festival” (Asian version of Halloween) each year, they stay in the background and only come out to bite us, if we fail to feed them.
Feed the ghosts or feed the machines? Remember the ‘Ghost in the shell?’
Why should we continue to feed whoever or whatever is behind the machines?
In the West, Google, Facebook and other tech giants will continue to offer #reputation scores to their users as a desirable #reward system.
>>> “Do what we like and you’ll get rewarded for being a Good Boy or Good Girl!” >> We’re not Boy Scouts or Girl Guides in the quicksand of this 21st century democracy.
We don’t need technology’s approval or help, to tell us what is our #kudos score. We used to be able to PHYSICALLY talk to people, one on one or in a group setting. Now it’s mostly digital, online.
That’s very dangerous as digital identities can be edited, false evidence added it (see China) and are almost impossible to change. The onus of proof is on you, the victim of a false report.
“This decade may likely be remembered as the final chapter in the unregulated adolescence of our collective digital identities.” Too right, that is!
Who is going to save us from this “Big Brother” social credit (approval rating) system?
Don’t hold your breath and hope that someone else will come to our rescue. We are talking about our lives and yes, our livelihoods in some cases.
Who has the power here? Them or us?
