You’re right. It’s archaic to be using spreadsheets, entered manually or semi-automated. Either go all in, full automation, or not at all.

Mistakes can be made when any work is done manually. Not by intention. It’s just how humans are made. Not to be 100% efficient or accurate. The uniqueness of being human is not efficiency in that way.

Having a machine or program who can do that for us, allows us more time for what we enjoy.

Time spent with friends & family over a meal, enjoying art, music, sports or reading. Studying or learning a craft. Meditating or reflecting on life.
